PHOTO: Woman Sentenced For Kidnapping Baby From Hospital in 1987
Ann Pettway, the 50-year old woman who snatched a newborn from a hospital more than two decades ago and raised the child as her own, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by a judge. She plead guilty to the charges of kidnapping, and described how she (in 1987) took a train from her Connecticut home to the hospital, and posed as a nurse. After kidnapping a baby, she raised the child for 20 years as her own.

17-year-old Lia Neal is bringing home an Olympic bronze medal after her freestyle relay team recently won third place in the women's 4x100-meter race. A resident of Brooklyn, New York, this is Neal's first time performing in the Olympics and she is the second U.S. female swimmer of African-American descent to win a medal.

Kameron Slade, a 10-year-old boy from Queens, New York, delivers a speech in support of same-sex marriage before the New York City Council. He originally wrote his speech two months ago for a competition at Public School 195 in Rosedale, Queens, but the principal of the school said it wasn’t acceptable, so he was barred from delivering it at first.

Hassan Malik has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Betty Williams, 28, whom he killed, stuffed into a suitcase, then placed among a pile of sidewalk trash on a New York City street. As the 57-year-old man heard his 20-year prison sentence, he turned to his victim’s family in the Manhattan courtroom and apologized.

PHOTOS: Sherman Hemsley of "The Jeffersons" Dies at 74
Sherman Hemsley, the actor who made the irascible, bigoted George Jefferson& of "The Jeffersons" one of television's most memorable characters and a symbol for urban upward mobility, has died. He was 74. Police in El Paso, Texas, said late Tuesday that Hemsley was found dead at his home on the eastside of the city. A statement from police said no foul play is suspected and that the exact cause of death is pending
The Philadelphia-born Hemsley first played the blustering black Harlem businessman on CBS's "All in the Family" before he was spun off onto "The Jeffersons," which in 11 seasons from 1975 to 1985 became one of TV's most successful sitcoms - particularly noteworthy with its mostly black cast.

According to CBS Chicago, Tonya Reaves, a 24-year old woman has died, after having a second trimester abortion at a Planned Parenthood facility in Chicago. Now her family members want answers as to what happened. An autopsy revealed that she died from a hemorrhage after a dilation and evacuation (D&E) procedure, which is typically done for women in their second trimester of pregnancy.

Rev. Jerome McNeil, Senior Pastor of Christian Chapel CME Church in Dallas, Texas, collapsed and died while delivering a sermon to a crowded sanctuary of churchgoers. Before becoming a pastor, he was the first black administrator for a Dallas County agency, second in command for the Juvenile Department in 1981. He had served the community there for 21 years.

Vastie Coleman (picture above), a 27-year old mother from Houston, Texas has been charged in the beating death of her 4-year-old son, and is being held without bond. She allegedly was upset that the boy wet himself. The boy’s two sisters told investigators that their mom would regularly use a cord to whip them because "the belt was broken because mom kept whipping [us] so hard it broke into pieces."

The Kiss Cam zoomed in and the two were shown on the big screen, prompting the crowd to cheer. He then gave Mrs. Obama a big kiss on the lips, and a peck on the forehead for good measure. The crowd roared.

"The Green Mile" star Michael Clarke Duncan has been hospitalized in Los Angeles after suffering a heart attack. Publicist Joy Fehily says in a brief email statement that the 54-year-old actor "suffered a myocardial infarction". She says his heart rate has stabilized and he's expected to make a full recovery.

Kile Glover, the 11-year old son of Tameka Foster (Usher's ex-wife), was recently hit by a jet-ski while inside an inner tube at Lake Lanier in Atlanta. He was airlifted to an Atlanta area hospital, and two days later is reported to be brain dead. Our prayers go out to the family!
