Editor Richard Stengel says Obama is being recognized for "finding and forging a new majority, for turning weakness into opportunity and for seeking, amid great adversity, to create a more perfect union." He added that it was remarkable that the president won two terms with over 50 percent of the popular vote as a Democrat, and noted that Obama took office in an economic crisis, and credited him with creating a new political "alignment like Ronald Reagan did forty years ago".
Other finalists and runners-ups also profiled include: Pakistan women's rights activist Malala Yousafzai), Apple CEO Tim Cook, Egyptian leader Mohammed Morsi, and Higgs boson physicist Fabiola Gianotti.

President Obama attended an evening vigil in Newtown, Connecticut, to mourn with the a community that is still dealing with the recent massacre. His visit came just two days after a man opened fire inside Sandy Hook Elementary School killing 26 people, including 20 boys and girls just 6 or 7 years old. He also visited privately with the families of the victims and with emergency personnel who responded to the shootings, and then he spoke at an interfaith vigil at Newtown High School.
Here's a snippet from his speech:
Here in Newtown, I come to offer the love and prayers of a nation. I am very mindful that mere words cannot match the depths of your sorrow, nor can they heal your wounded hearts.
I can only hope it helps for you to know that you’re not alone in your grief, that our world, too, has been torn apart, that all across this land of ours, we have wept with you. We’ve pulled our children tight.
As a community, you’ve inspired us, Newtown. In the face of indescribable violence, in the face of unconscionable evil, you’ve looked out for each other. You’ve cared for one another. And you’ve loved one another. This is how Newtown will be remembered, and with time and God’s grace, that love will see you through.

According to Campbell, after chasing Frey and the other two women to their car, he opened the door and commanded Frey to get out. But she refused, and then began to drive away while the deputy was standing between the open door and the driver's seat. He felt that she was trying to run him over, and so he fired the deadly shot into the car which hit Frey in the neck.
The family is upset about her death, and has responded by saying that she was stealing because of the financial difficulties she has had due to her 2-year old daughter having sickle cell anemia. "Why couldn’t you just shoot the tire, shoot the window?" said her mother Sharon Wilkerson. "Was it that serious?" She added that even if her daughter had committed a crime, she did not deserve to die and she worries now for her two young grandchildren.
Now it has happened again to a 17-year old from Harris, Texas. Apparently, he was being detained by police because a friend reported him as a suicide risk. While in the back of the patrol car in handcuffs, he reportedly shot himself but did not die. He is in critical condition.
This second case in Texas seems more credible than the first case in Arkansas because the young man was arrested for a suicide risk. But how did he manage to shoot himself while in handcuffs? And how did the police not find his gun when they searched him?

Terry Achane, a 31-year old man from South Carolina, has won a long legal battle to gain back custody of his 21-month-old daughter after his wife secretly put her up for adoption without telling him. The baby was placed with a family in Utah, but a judge has ordered the adoptive parents to return her to him within the next 60 days. In a 48-page ruling, the judge condemned the adoption agency that handled the case for refusing to disclose any information to him nearly two years ago when he learned that his child had been given away without his consent.
The man says that he left his pregnant wife for a new job out of state, and just a few days later she quietly signed over their unborn baby to another family. The family in Utah accused him of abandoning both the mother and baby during her pregnancy, and therefore demonstrating no capability for raising the girl. But that judge has already ruled that the baby is going back to her biological daddy!

In New Book, Olympic Champion Gabby Douglas Discusses How She "Nearly Quit Gymnastics to Work at Chick-fil-A"
Yolanda Spivey, an African American woman, was recently looking on Monster.com for a job in the insurance industry, but found that she wasn’t getting any job offers. So, as an experiment, she set up a fake account identifying herself as white and changing her name to Bianca White to see if employers would respond differently. Here's her story below in her own words (as originally printed in Clutch Magazine):
Two years ago, I noticed that Monster.com had added a “diversity questionnaire” to the site. This gives an applicant the opportunity to identify their sex and race to potential employers. Monster.com guarantees that this “option” will not jeopardize your chances of gaining employment. You must answer this questionnaire in order to apply to a posted position - it cannot be skipped.
At times, I would mark off that I was a Black female, but then I thought, this might be hurting my chances of getting employed, so I started selecting the “decline to identify” option instead. That still had no effect on my getting a job. So I decided to try an experiment: I created a fake job applicant and called her Bianca White.
Christmas, the world's biggest holiday, is fast-approaching and nearly two billion people will be celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ this December 25th. But there are millions out there who choose not to celebrate Christmas at all because of it's pagan origin. Here's an excerpt from an article published on JW.org entitled "Why Do Some People Not Celebrate Christmas?":
