"Good Morning America" co-host Robin Roberts is returning back to work today, February 20, 2013. After being diagnosed last year with breast cancer, she was then diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called myelodysplastic syndrome. The 52-year-old was then was forced to undergo a bone marrow transplant, and amongst all of this - she also lost her 88-year old mom last year.
In October, Roberts was finally released from the hospital, but just as she stepped outside, she had a panic attack and was re-admitted. Then, in November, she had yet another setback; she contracted a CMV herpes-like infection, usually associated with AIDS. She was again re-admitted back into the hospital.
All of this obviously took her out of commission, but now she is back on the airwaves, and is being featured in the February 25, 2013 issue of People Magazine.
Responding to a question about her hair loss (due to the chemotherapy) and the need now to wear a wig, she commented, "Whatever. I’m thankful I have a pretty good shaped head." Confident that her hair will grow back, she admits that she isn’t so sure about the 30-pound weight loss.
