Beyonce Says She Was Shocked by Criticism of Her and Jay-Z's Trip to Cuba
Singer Beyonce says that it was "quite shocking" that people were so critical of her recent trip to the Havana, Cuba with her husband Jay-Z. She says they only went there to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary. "It was such a beautiful trip. I met some incredible children. I visited some incredible entrepreneurs. I learned so much about so many people and the country," she told Amy Robach of ABC News.
Their trip continues to be criticized by the media and those who want the US government to continue sanctions against Cuba, and punish those who reward the country with tourism. Some have even accused the Obama administration of authorizing the trip, which has been denied by the White House and President Obama himself.
In one interview on the Today Show, President Obama commented, "My understanding is I think they went through a group that organizes these educational trips down to Cuba. You know, this is not something the White House was involved with. We’ve got better things to do."
